Suryakumar shines as Mumbai beats RCB

Suryakumar Yadav hit an unthinkable 83 off of just 35 balls, and Nehal Wadhera went undefeated with 52, leading Mumbai Indians to a six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday in Mumbai.

After Mumbai sent them in to bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 199 for five thanks to centuries from Faf du Plessis (65 off 41 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (68 off 33 balls).

Mumbai Indians won the match against RCB in 16.3 overs as they chased 200 at the Wankhede Stadium, where they had not lost to them since IPL 2015.

With 12 points after 11 games, the five-time champion Mumbai Indians are in third place after their win.

With only 10 points after 11 games, RCB dropped to sixth place.

Suryakumar’s spectacular effort included hitting six sixes and seven fours while he and Wadhera put on 140 runs for the third wicket off of only 66 balls.

Wadhera, who was promoted to No 4 after being dropped on 16 by Wanindu Hasaranga (2/53) on a difficult return opportunity, went on to score his second fifty of the year. The left-handed batter hit 52 not out on 34 balls, including four fours and three sixes.

Despite Rohit Sharma’s continued mediocre performance, the Mumbai Indians never seemed threatened as their bowlers staged a comeback of sorts in the first half of the game.

Despite losing their skipper early in the game, the Mumbai Indians were able to defeat the Royal Challengers Bangalore thanks to a strong third-wicket stand and a quick start from Ishan Kishan (42 not out).

At one point, RCB seemed poised to post a huge total, but MI rallied back to apply the brakes, and the visitors’ inability to post even 200 ultimately cost them.

Kishan’s 51-run opening stand with Sharma, during which the latter was bowled for his seventh consecutive single-digit score, was largely due to his four sixes and as many fours.

With only 26 balls remaining, Suryakumar reached his fourth fifty of the season and third at the Wankhede.
