Jason Moore, director of Pitch Perfect, will helm Lionsgate’s adaptation of The Guncle, Steven Rowley’s best-selling novel.
As Moore put it, “The Guncle “won my heart “It’s ironic that one can long for a family while lacking the maturity to manage one. For this reason, I can’t wait to begin working with Lionsgate.
Rowley plans to build and compose The Guncle. The Burr team consists of Kristin Burr, Rob Weisbach, and Jessica Friedman. Directors James Myers and Scott O’Brien of Lionsgate will be in charge.
Upon the unexpected death of their mother, the protagonist, a reclusive, once-famous gay TV actor, takes in his niece and nephew and provides a safe haven for all three.
Beyond that 2012 musical comedy, Moore has only directed two other films: the 2015 buddy comedy Sisters and the forthcoming romantic action thriller Shot Wedding, both of which feature Jennifer Lopez.
