A top official has stated that in preparation for Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray’s planned visit to the proposed refinery site in Barsu village in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district on Saturday, a huge number of police officers have been posted around and around the area.

He also mentioned that orders forbidding unlawful assembly had been issued in the region under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Thackeray planned to travel more than 400 kilometres to meet with locals in the village of Rajapur taluka who are protesting the government’s intention to give land in the area to a mega-oil refinery.

The spokesman added that a separate gathering was being held nearby by those in favour of the refinery project.

Before this, Thackeray had hoped to conduct a demonstration in the Barsu-Solgaon area, but he was not allowed to.

The source stated that the Rajaput taluka has received additional personnel from the districts of Sindhudurg, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Pune, and Thane, as well as companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF).
