TMC plundering West Bengal's wealth, says PM Modi in Howrah

Kolkata, May 12 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lambasted the Congress, Left and Trinamool Congress for having deteriorated West Bengal’s condition by “looting” it for years.

The PM accused the opposition parties of plundering the state’s wealth for their own benefit and highlighted the significance of the 2024 elections for Bengal’s development.

“If you combine the ancestral politics of Congress and torture of the Left parties, then Trinamool Congress is formed. Howrah was once a thriving industrial belt of West Bengal. First, the Left and then Trinamool drove the industrialists out from here. Everything is under the control of Trinamool Congress-pampered extortionists,” said Prime Minister Modi while addressing an election meeting in Howrah Lok Sabha constituency in support of BJP candidate Rathin Chakraborty.

He mentioned that the leaders of Trinamool Congress are engaged in plotting violence and the goons backed by the ruling party are forcefully grabbing land in various parts of the state.

“All this is happening because of the direct encouragement of the state government. The common syndrome of all allies of the opposition INDI Alliance is corruption. Trinamool Congress is a force which pampers corruption openly,” the Prime Minister said.

He also accused Trinamool Congress of having a direct involvement in the state’s lottery scam.

“Time has come now for the people of West Bengal to punish the Trinamool Congress. I am sure you will punish them and uproot them totally. Trinamool Congress is still batting in favour of the Sandeshkhali accused and is engaged in a competition of appeasement with the Congress party,” stated PM Modi.

The Prime Minister said that he has been able to change the traditional political approach where parties and leaders used to forget the common people after getting elected.

“Previously the parties and leaders used to forget the common people after getting elected. They even refused to recognise the voters. But, I have been able to change this approach to a great extent,” he mentioned.

BRS, BJP running false propaganda on paddy procurement: Telangana minister

Hyderabad, May 26 (IANS) Telangana Minister for Civil Supplies Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday alleged that BRS and BJP are running false propaganda against the government on the issue of paddy procurement from farmers.

He said the opposition parties are spreading lies and misinformation against the Congress government.

Addressing a press conference, he claimed that there is no truth in the corruption allegations and criticism by the opposition parties.

He said that the Congress will not remain silent over irresponsible allegations against the government.

The Congress leader said BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao and BJP floor leader in Assembly Maheshwar Reddy speak whatever they want

Reacting strongly to Rama Rao’s allegations, the minister said levelling baseless allegations against an honest person like him is highly improper.

Earlier, the BRS leader had claimed Rs.1,000 crore scam in procurement of paddy and fine variety rice by the government.

Uttam Kumar Reddy clarified that the government has not procured even one grain of fine-variety rice. If somebody is ready to sell fine rice at Rs 42 per kg, the government will immediately procure it, he said on Rama Rao’s allegations.

If the conditions laid down in the tenders are accepted, the government will procure any quantity of paddy, he added.

He alleged that BRS and BJP are speaking on behalf of defaulter ricer millers.

He said on one hand the opposition parties are criticising the government for not taking action against ricer millers, while on the other they are saying that millers are being put to difficulties.

Slamming BJP leader Maheshwar Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that he bought the floor leader’s post by sending money to Delhi.

He said that Maheshwar Reddy is trying to overtake Kishan Reddy. He wants to move ahead in the party.

Under the BRS government, the fine variety of paddy was fetched at Rs1,700 per quintal but now farmers are getting Rs 2,400. He claimed that after Congress came to power, farmers earned an additional income of Rs 1,100 crore.

Stating that not even one rupee was spent on fine variety rice, Uttam Kumar Reddy said a tender was called for procurement of fine rice but was later cancelled.

He said the previous government had pushed the Civil Supplies Department into Rs 58,000 crore debts. Under the BRS rule, the Civil Supplies Corporation had raised the debts of Rs 11,000 crore

Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed that compared to the previous government, the Congress government started paddy procurement early.

“The government took a revolutionary step to procure wet paddy at MSP. Ours is the only government which procured paddy soaked in unseasonal rains,” he said.

Delhi: Man on the run after killing friend arrested

New Delhi, May 26 (IANS) The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested a man for allegedly murdering his friend, an official said, adding the accused also had an illicit relationship with the deceased’s mother.

The arrested individual was identified as Virender a.k.a. Mota (33), a resident of Sonipat district in Haryana. He has been on the run since Harsh, 23, was found dead over a month ago.

According to police, on April 13, the body of Harsh was detected by his roommate in their rented accommodation in Khirki Extension.

“A subsequent postmortem confirmed that Harsh had been strangled, leading to the registration of a murder case,” said an official.

The case was assigned to the Crime Branch for a parallel investigation alongside the local police.

According to officials, Harsh was an active member of several ‘homosexual clubs’ in the Delhi-NCR region.

“Extensive raids were conducted across various locations, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Delhi, and Gurugram. While one suspect, Mohit, was apprehended, Virender, managed to evade capture,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Rakesh Pawariya.

However, on May 21, police received a tip-off that Virender would be in the Rajender Nagar area of Gurugram to meet an associate.

“After careful planning and groundwork, the team successfully tracked Virender’s movements and laid a trap at the anticipated location. He was eventually nabbed, and he confessed to his involvement in the murder during questioning,” said the DCP.

Virender told police that he had been working with his cousin Mohit a.k.a. Rahul for Rapido in the Delhi and Gurugram area.

“It was revealed that Virender had illicit relations with Harsh’s mother. About two years ago, a friend of Harsh had caught Virender in a compromising position with Harsh’s mother, leading to initial animosity that later turned into a friendship between Virender and Harsh,” said the DCP.

On April 11, Harsh invited Virender to a beer party at his flat via a video call. Virender, accompanied by Mohit, attended the party.

“The evening took a tragic turn when, during a drunken altercation, Harsh challenged Virender’s masculinity, enraging him. In a fit of anger, Virender strangled Harsh to death and fled the spot, attempting to stage the crime as a suicide by discarding Harsh’s mobile phone in Rohini,” said the DCP.
