Terror funding suspect Yasin Malik has been found guilty

Prominent Kashmiri separatist Yasin Malik was convicted on Thursday of all charges, including those under the strict Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), in a terror funding case.

NIA officials have been instructed to assess Malik’s financial situation in order to determine the appropriate fine, and on May 25 the case was set down for arguments regarding sentence quantum by Special Judge Praveen Singh.

According to Malik’s statement to the court, the charges against him included Section 16 (terrorist act), Section 17 (raising funds for terrorist acts) and Section 18, which relates to “conspiracy to commit terrorist acts,” of the UAPA and Section 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
