Patna, Feb 5 (IANS) Angered by the uprooting of a cauliflower from a farm field, a group of strongmen in Bihar’s Jamui district mercilessly assaulted six people on Monday and also gouged out an eye of one of them, police said.
The incident happened in Neem Nawada village under Sadar police station.
Sadar SHO Arun Kumar said the victims were admitted to Sadar Jamui hospital and are undergoing treatment.
“We have received a complaint and lodged an FIR under relevant sections of IPC and SC ST Act at Sadar hospital and the matter is under investigation,” he said.
According to the SHO, the incident was triggered when a boy uprooted a cauliflower from an agricultural field of Kishori Mahto in the village.
“Soon a group of men including Kishori Mahto, Ajit Mahto and Babu Lal Mahto, carrying clubs, axes and stones, reached the spot and attacked this boy. In an attempt to save the boy, Anup Manjhi, Jhuli Manjhi , Heera Manjhi , Badal Kumar and Tetri Devi intervened but were brutally assaulted by Kishori Mahto and his men. One of Jhuli Manjhi’s eyes was also gouged out. Tetri Devi and her son were also injured in this attack. After the incident, a DIAL 112 team arrived at the scene and rescued the victims,” he added.
