Alexis Sanchez on River Plate radar
Buenos Aires, April 30 (IANS) Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez could return to his former club River Plate at the end of the season, according to media reports in South America.
But the Buenos Aires club faces competition for Sanchez’s signature from Italy’s Udinese, Brazilian side Flamengo, Turkey’s Trabzonspor and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad, Argentina’s TyC Sports reported on Monday.
It added that River Plate manager Martin Demichelis had identified the 35-year-old as an ideal reinforcement for the knockout phase of this year’s Copa Libertadores, should his team advance beyond the group stage.
Sanchez made 31 appearances for River Plate and scored four goals before his 2008 move to Udinese.
The attacker’s contract with Inter Milan will expire in June and the Italian Serie A club has reportedly said it won’t extend the deal, reports Xinhua.
The Chile international has scored four goals and provided four assists across all competitions for Inter this season, having mostly been used off the bench.

France prez Macron to meet Real Madrid chief Perez to discuss Mbappe’s release for 2024 Paris Olympics: Reports
Paris, May 21 (IANS) French president Emmanuel Macron is reportedly hosting Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez for lunch on Tuesday afternoon (CET) for the 120th anniversary of FIFA at the Elysee.
According to the leading French sports daily L’equipe, Macron will try to persuade Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, to let Kylian Mbappe play in the 2024 Paris Olympics
This news comes a day after Mbappe threw his farewell party at Parisian restaurant, Gigi. Mbappe’s mother was seen exiting the party and was surrounded by reporters with one asking her about her son’s next destination to which she reportedly replied “I think you all know already.”
The Paris Olympics will mark the first time the games will be returning to the ‘City of Love’ after a century with their last time being in 1924. Macron has repeatedly emphasized on the importance of these games and is likely wanting to showcase Mbappe, who is one of the most influential athletes of the country.
It will be interesting to see Perez’s decision regarding Mbappe as the Olympics will be held at the end of July, which is when the 25-year old is expected to be in pre-season with the Los Blancos getting ready for his first season with the white and black.
Macron has been in constant contact with Kylian Mbappe ever since the French president reportedly played a huge part in convincing the 25-year old of staying at PSG in 2022 and was reportedly present at Mbappe’s farewell party, a rumor that is not yet confirmed.
Mbappe announced his intentions to leave Paris Saint Germain earlier this month through an emotional video in which he thanked the fans, the club and all those who helped him in his journey to becoming the French side’s leading top scorer.
“I have no particular comment to make other than the fact that I am counting upon Real Madrid to free up Kylian for the Olympic Games so he can play with the French team,” Macron said in a video posted on his X account after Kylian’s farewell message

Karnataka and Delhi to battle it out in the final of inaugural U-20 Men's NFC
Narainpur, May 21 (IANS) The Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship 2024 is at its business end as Delhi and Karnataka take the field in the final at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground on Wednesday.
After 54 matches that spanned over a month the two finalists are undefeated so far despite both Karnataka and Delhi have employed two different approaches in the competition.
Karnataka have the most miserly defense in the tournament so far. They have conceded just a solitary goal from their five matches, having netted 20 goals.
The only goal they have conceded in this tournament was in their first match against Jharkhand (3-1), while their biggest victory so far was against Ladakh (11-0).
While their goalkeeper Sam George has managed to keep four clean sheets from five appearances, Saikhom Borish Singh has been carrying them through at the other end of the pitch, with six goals to his name. The Karnataka forward is just one behind Mizoram’s Lalthankima in the top scorer’s charts.
At the other end of the spectrum are the side from the capital, who have shown the intent to play an expansive game, looking to score multiple goals against their opponents. They have netted 22 goals from five matches thus far, their biggest victory coming against Pondicherry (7-0) in the group stage.
Delhi have, however, shown a lot of grit and determination to get the required results; having netted six times in the second half of their last three matches. Ramesh Chhetri and Akshay Raj Singh (four each), and Rituraj Mohan (three) have been the primary goal scorers for them.
The Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s NFC final between Karnataka and Delhi will kick off at 3.30 pm IST, and will be streamed live on the Indian Football YouTube channel.

WFI decides not to conduct trials for Paris Olympics, one wrestler plans to move court: Sources
New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) The seven-member selection committee has decided not to hold any trials for the Paris Olympics, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh told IANS.
Earlier, a couple of women wrestlers who have qualified for Olympics, had requested the WFI not to subject them to selection trials, saying that every single step they take and every little thing they do from now on will have a bearing on India’s medal chances at the Olympics.
“The seven-member selection committee has decided not to hold any trials in wrestling for Paris Olympics, all the six quota holders will represent India in 2024 Games,” said Sanjay Singh.
However, sources told IANS that one senior Indian wrestler is not happy with the decision and is considering a legal recourse to challenge the ruling made by the WFI.
“One Indian wrestler is planning to go Court to challenge this announcement by WFI, he said he was told earlier that trials will take place, now what happened? This is not good for the sport,” the source added.
Meanwhile, Paris Olympics quota winner, Antim Panghal’s family welcomed the WFI decision and said that they will be able to focus on Olympics.
“Now they can focus on the Olympics without any tension, thank you so much WFI,” a family member told IANS. Antim is currently training at SAI Hissar centre.
At 2024 Games, India will have six wrestlers in its contingent with five quotas coming through women. Aman Sehrawat and Nisha Dahiya took India’s number of quotas to six at the World Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers in Istanbul, Turkey.
Vinesh Phogat in the 50kg category. Antim Panghal in 53kg, Anshu Malik in 57kg and Reetika Hooda in 76kg category had already qualified for Paris Games at different qualifying events.
