Is ISRO readying itself for second Mars Mission ?

second mars orbiter mission isro

According to a top ISRO scientist on Thursday, the second mission to Mars is now in the study phase as the Indian space agency considers all of the alternatives available to make the mission a reality.

According to M. Sankaran, Director of the UR Rao Satellite Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Mars mission must be larger and produce more scientific results.

“If you’re referring to a brand-new Mars expedition, that is still in the planning stages. We are considering all of our possibilities for carrying out a mission. In comparison to the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), it must be much larger or produce a greater scientific result. We are configuring it while we are still in the study phase, Sankaran told PTI.

On November 5, 2013, India successfully launched Mangalyaan, its first Mars orbiter mission, which began orbiting the planet starting on September 24, 2014. The orbiter lost communication in October 2022, ending the Mangalyaan-1 mission.
