A rail fracture at Govandi station on the Harbour Line in Mumbai on Wednesday affected local train service, according to a Central Railway official.
A rail crack near Govandi station caused the suburban services on the down (Panvel-bound) line to be suspended for around 40 minutes, he said.
From south Mumbai, the Harbour Line offers rail service to Navi Mumbai and Panvel in the neighboring Raigad district.
Tuesday’s local train derailment at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai also had an impact on services on the Harbour Line.
According to Central Railway’s chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar, a rail fracture was discovered on Wednesday at 7:50 am, and movement on the line resumed at 8:30 am.
During the morning rush hour, the local train service—often referred to as Mumbai’s lifeline—was affected on the Harbour Line. Some passengers claim that because local trains were over 30 minutes late, crowds grew in both the trains and at the terminals.
