Hunger strike against NEET by DMK in Tamil Nadu

Under the leadership of state minister and head of the party’s youth wing Udhayanidhi Stalin, the ruling Dravida Munetra Kazhagam’s state-wide hunger strike demanding the elimination of the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) got underway on Sunday.

At the beginning of the demonstration in Valluvar Kottam here, prominent DMK leaders and cabinet ministers Duraimurugan, Ma Subramanian, and PK Sekar Babu, party MPs, MLAs, and Chennai Mayor Priya R joined Udhayanidhi.

On this stage, a collage of medical aspirants, including S Anita of Ariyalur, who allegedly committed suicide due to NEET, was on display, and floral tributes were given in their honour.

The state-wide hunger strike is being staged in an effort to abolish the central qualifying test, particularly in light of an additional aspirant’s apparent suicide last week.

NEET, according to Duraimurugan, is detrimental to student welfare, and the DMK has long opposed it.

Both during the current DMK administration and the previous AIADMK control, the state Assembly had passed resolutions opposing NEET.

Duraimurugan claimed that the Centre was ignoring TN’s request to stop NEET despite his repeated efforts.
