According to officials, operations will start on Monday at the Port Blair airport’s new terminal building.

On July 18, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually opened the new integrated terminal building at Veer Savarkar International Airport.

An official from the Airport Authority of India stated that a special event had been planned at the new terminal to commemorate the start of operations.

On the first day, he said, the fliers will also be welcomed with bouquets and customary “aarti and tilak.”

They will also receive native Nicobari hats made of palm fronds, he continued.

The new terminal, which is fashioned like a shell and depicts the natural surroundings of the islands, cost Rs. 707.73 crore to construct.

The terminal, which is 40,837 square metres in size overall, is entirely lit by natural light.

It has a peak hour capacity of 1,200 people and an annual capacity of 40 lakh passengers.
